composition period 12 – evaluation

Listen to the phrases (root+branch1+branch2+branch3+branch4+branch5+branch6+branch7+branch8+branch9+branch10+terminal) and assign them preference points in the scale of 1 to 10 (bigger numbers represent higher preference). You are not allowed to give points to your own phrase (leave it 0). Deadline for submission is on Wednesday 27.11 at 23:59 in your local timezone. In the end you can find the reaper project files, in which you can find material for the subsequent branch phrases.

unspoken words

I consider this as a terminal phrase. It continues the already established texture and introduces some repetitive motives without saying much… while at the end I have mixed sound form the beginning of the piece.
the end

This is the final phrase in which the ambient layers from the previous phrases are present. All the granular textures are removed except for one very high pitched music box sample. Having an ambient material helps the phrase fade out naturally, with long reverb tail.
strata got surprised

Strata madness. There is nothing to articulate anymore. Or maybe there is? Where it is? The split becomes inevitable to cope with. The end phrase.

“Postscript” continues with the same mood established by the preceding phrase, continuing with a series of splinter-size fragments of previous sections, similar to Chopin’s brief wrap-up gestures at the end of a piece. It functions as the ending phrase for the composition.

This is a very short contribution. I felt that the last phrase was almost complete as an ending, so I just recycled a small collection of sounds from elsewhere in the piece to sign off.
