composition period 7 – evaluation

Listen to the branch phrases (root+branch1+branch2+branch3+branch4+branch5+branch6) and assign them preference points in the scale of 1 to 10 (bigger numbers represent higher preference). You are not allowed to give points to your own phrase (leave it 0). Deadline for submission is on Tuesday 22.10 at 23:59 in your local timezone. In the end you can find the reaper project files, in which you can find material for the subsequent branch phrases.

This phrase continues on the texture introduced in after_climax, but goes into a deeper and larger space and almost settles until a big event occurs. I felt it seemed right structurally to extend the more drawn out material a bit at this point, and at the same time open up a different spatial sound world. I hope there’s scope for a lot of different things to happen after this.
sustained orange

The sustained section continues to transform. In this short piece, I am not sure if I need to much contrast and radical changes although this could be an idea in itself. It seems to me the piece is characterized by some sort of micromanage of the initial files. We are 1/3 before the end of the piece and I would consider the last couple of minutes as an opportunity to deconstruct and and conclude the piece.

This phrase continues exploring the newly introduced sound material as well as recollects the granular phrases from the piece to slowly transition to the part, where layers of both – granular and slow, sustained textures inhabit the space.
knock knock whos there

This branch continues the idea of after the climax semi-calming the narration, it is supposed to lead a slow crescendo towards the biggest explosion in the piece, that can happen in a perspective of maybe 3 or 4 next branches. Here’s the fragment where something comes in need to be heard – a voice, sped up from far away, among cracks and harmonic distractions. You can treat it as a “before the Halloween” branch phrase, but still, it has this anxiety and urge to be developed.

“Anamnesis” uses as a base the previous phrase “after climax” and creates subtle snippets of all previous sections on top of it in order to create a strong sense of cohesion. I was inspired by the unselected phrase “remnants” of the previous voting round.
